Mondays with Mira Teaching Picture Books Video: In the Trees Honeybees

In the Trees Honey Bees, written by Lori Mortenson and illustrated by Chris Arbo, is a fabulously rhymed and realistically illustrated non-fiction book about how a bee hive operates. The text itself it very short and sweet, however, for the kids who are a little older, and who are possibly aspiring entomologists, there are additional paragraphs describing in further detail the jobs of the different bees in the hive. The illustrations are totally magical, because in most cases, the illustrations are from the point of view of a bee!

Hurray for Mondays. Me again! I read this book a while ago and I loved it. It works on so many levels. Thank you for deconstructing the text (rhyming and non), the theme(s), the underlying structure, the art...and so much more! Your blog is like no other Mira. Hi, I'm new to your site. That sounds like a great book. It has given me an idea for a non fiction rhyming manuscript I have written. I've got the rhyming down, but I think adding the other factual info on some of the pages is a great idea. Might be just what my manuscript needs. When submitting this to a publisher, would you just add the factual info below the rhyming text it belongs with? Maybe label it as sidebar info. Thanks, Janet
