Writing, Illustrating, and Publishing Children’s Picture Books
Have you: Always wanted to write or illustrate a picture book? Have a story that needs finishing and submitting? Would like to learn new art or writing techniques? Would just like to learn how picture books and submissions, contracts and royalties work and connect with other wonderful children’s picture book lovers? Then this fun and inspiring class might be for you!
Award winning children’s book illustrator, author, art director, educator, and picture book lover, Mira Reisberg, has a PhD in education focusing on art, culture, and children’s picture books. She has taught this course at UC Berkeley Extension, San Francisco City College Extension, and Northern Illinois University. 17 of her students have successfully been published. The course explores the different genres of the field, why some books are more successful than others, and how publishing works as Mira gently guides you through making your own picture book. In the process we will look at many wonderful picture books, talk about how parents and teachers use them, and have a lot of fun. No prior art making experience is required.

Go straight to the heart of change by accessing your creativity, learning simple, effective, and empowering art techniques combining right brain’s creative, intuitive, feeling aspects with left brain’s focus on logic, thinking, and talking etc. Left brain plus right brain = whole brain empowerment.
Date and Time: 4 classes beginning Sat. July 24 – August 14 9.30-11.30
Cost: $95 plus $20 materials fee
Place: University Art cnr Marconi and Fulton Sacramento
Topics may include - weight, time, work, and/or money identities, loss, finding balance with mandalas, manifesting abundance, playing with our inner monsters, anger boxes, sacred jewelry, facing fears and self-defeating behaviors, and/or finding inner peace.
You will learn to draw self-portraits, animals, and landscapes, and work with materials such as, acrylics, glazing, and transferring images, oil pastels, collage, watercolors, charcoal, paper clay sculpture, jewelry making, and/or needle felting techniques, all taught with no-fail techniques.
Dr. Mira Reisberg has a PhD in Education with a focus on art and cultue. She has both studied in and led many healing arts workshops. Mira uses a pedagogy of pleasure as a tool for learning and transformation.

Feeding the Soul / Painting for Pleasure
Come relax, de-stress, and learn about acrylics, collage, layering, transferring images, and the pleasures of painting to poetry. For beginning to advanced students, you will learn new abstract and narrative techniques with demonstrations by an expert. Choose from a wide range of poems (or bring your own) to inspire your creative muse and let your spirit fly playing and exploring art making.

Felted Totem Animals Class
Totem animals are guides or inspirational animals, real or imaginary, often seen in indigenous or sacred art. Instructor Mira Reisberg is an award-winning children’s book illustrator and an award-winning art teacher. This class is designed to be really fun, relaxing, and inspiring. You’ll be amazed at what you can make with this soft, easy to use, eco-friendly material.
