Pieta

I painted this in the Palouse region of Washington State. The landscape has an almost religous feel, it is so beautiful and other worldly with intense golden fields of wheat in the summer. I wanted to juxtapose the Renaissance feel of a pieta into a more contemporary context, to show that cetain themes transcend time and place. I painted the boat to represent Pullman as a place of passage, being a university town. In addition, it alludes to the water table below which is rapidly being depleted.
